When I was moving home a few months ago, some of the items that I had to think carefully about were my shoes. I seem to buy new shoes all the time, keeping a huge collection – out of which I only really wear a small amount. I decided I’d try to get rid of a few that I never wear. But I don’t mean throw them out – I would never do that! Since I am aiming to become an Eco Empress I will of course donate shoes and anything else that I don’t use.

Old shoes are one of those funny things. I don’t know about you, but often when it comes time to get rid of my shoes they have been used to the point of no return. I have a few in good condition, but most of them I simply just cannot wear any more.

Running Free is a shoe recycling program aiming to get the most out of our shoes. Their slogan is ‘the life of a running shoe isn’t necessarily over after 500 miles’, stating that there are many out there who could benefit from our old shoes.
