Eco living tips are all around us at the moment – they are on the news, promoted by big business, written about in blogs and Tweeted about on Twitter. But what is the real motive behind this advice? Is it really about helping the earth and the environment, or is it simply about cutting costs and saving money?
Does It Matter?
In my mind many people have begun to listen to eco living tips simply because they want to save money on things like their gas, electricity, water and so on. They might not even be aware about how much of an impact this could have on the earth – yet they may still profess to be living in a ‘green’ and eco-friendly way.
However, I don’t think it’s a bad thing that people are trying to save money using eco living methods. After all, it is the end result that counts and that end result is saving electricity, finding other means of living, and helping to make the earth more sustainable.
A Lot More To Learn
That said, I think it’s important to understand why certain measures are in place. For example, many people are now using energy-saving light bulbs. All I know about this is that it saves electricity, so uses up slightly less of the earth’s resources. But there is so much more to learn – what about the materials the light bulbs are made of? Are they recyclable? Are they good for our health? Are there any alternatives?
I hope you don’t mind the fact that I don’t have the answers. I like raising the questions because they’re important, but I am learning a lot about eco living every day.
