Running Free is a shoe recycling program aiming to get the most out of our shoes. Their slogan is ‘the life of a running shoe isn’t necessarily over after 500 miles’, stating that there are many out there who could benefit from our old shoes.
What Is Running Free?
Running Free is a large running store based in Canada. Alongside selling a huge collection of running items, they help people to recycle their shoes by putting them to good use in countries that really need them.
If you are based in Canada then it’s so easy to recycle your shoes! All you need to do is bring them along with you to the store and drop them in the box outside of the Markham store. The shoes that you give here will then be distributed amongst the homeless of Toronto, as well as being sent to men, women and children in need all over the world.

Running Free strongly emphasise the fact that they don’t just take running shoes, they take any kind of shoes that are still useable. They work with a number of organizations to ensure that there will be someone out there who can benefit from your old shoes.

Conclusion
This program is obviously only available to those who live nearby the store in Canada. However, there are many other shoe recycling options all over the world. I’ll review more as and when I come across them.
