Vintage shopping has become a huge trend recently. Celebrities and poor students alike are making the most out of these unique and fashionable items. Here is a quick introduction to vintage clothing in general, before part 2 which will be released later this week.

What Is Vintage?

Vintage shopping concerns clothes and accessories that are not only second-hand, but from an era of the past. There are now new stores all the time specializing in this type of clothing. They sell quality second-hand clothes at bargain prices, which makes vintage shopping a great way to look for something unique, at a bargain price.

Vintage clothing can range from around 20 to 70 years old. There are also a number of items of clothing considered antique, which are often extremely valuable. The trend of wearing vintage clothes has really grown in recent years after celebrities have endorsed this eco-friendly and unique way of finding clothes.

When you buy vintage, every item you buy has a unique story behind it.

Identifying Vintage Clothing

When you go vintage shopping you might need to learn a few facts to find the real bargains. Learning to recognize certain brands and key features can help you estimate the age of an item, which greatly affects its value.

Recognize key giveaways. For example, Velcro wasn’t popularized until the late 1960s, and if a pair of jeans states ‘LEVI’ in capitals, they would have been produced before 1971.

When you go shopping its useful to bring measuring tape, since size labeling has changed so much throughout history and might not mean anything when compared to today’s sizes.

Come back on Friday to read part two about why vintage shopping is so important.
