In part one of this piece on vintage shopping I mentioned how vintage clothes allow you to find unique, bargain pieces of clothing. However, in my journey to become an Eco Empress I’m especially interested in how eco-friendly vintage clothing is!
Why Vintage Clothing Is So Important
Vintage clothing has always been seen as a great way to find unique items of clothing. Such items of clothing may almost be one-of-a-kind, not readily available elsewhere – and they are usually very reasonably priced. So many celebrities buy vintage simply as a way to show off their unique, and timeless, sense of fashion.
However, vintage shopping is becoming more and more popular as we are all feeling more aware of the environmental issues behind the manufacture of new clothing. Both the processes and materials used in clothing today harm the environment in many ways, so when we buy vintage we are simply recycling what was already made in the past. By doing this we are also preventing these valuable items from being sent to the landfill.
Vintage shopping will really reduce your carbon footprint. Less resources not only go into the production of this clothing, but also into the sale. Often these shops are really simple, with rows and rows of clothing to browse through. This clothing hasn’t been sent thousands of miles, and it hasn’t been mass-produced.

Three Reasons Why You Should Buy Vintage
- Instead of following the fashion trends as they cycle round and round, get the real thing back when it was first made popular.
- Stop clothes going into the landfill, and save chemicals and harmful dyes from being released into the environment.
- Benefit from the fact that clothes were made with quality materials in the past. Even if they are used, they are usually top quality – and for a largely reduced price!
Have I got you convinced yet?! Just do a quick internet search to find vintage shops in your area. Unfortunately there aren’t any where I live. But that won’t stop me! I’m getting more and more savvy when it comes to clothes shopping!
